Are You in Alignment with
Your True North

What is our personal 'North'?  Do we know where we stand in relation to our true North? When we identify North on a compass our direction becomes clear, because naturally we come to know South, East and West.  If we know our North:- our truth, purpose and vocation in life, then we will find that the rest of our life will slot into place.  If we are not happy in what we are doing, then we are probably someone who is still searching.  We know that our internal compass is set in the right place when there is no mis-match between our thinking, feeling, saying and doing.  That is when our values, purpose and actions are all in alignment.

Unfortunately, we live in a world where our success is usually measured not by how much we have to offer, how much joy we emanate, or how much personal satisfaction we feel, but rather by our monetary income, financial net worth and status.  It doesn't matter how many degrees, diplomas, certificates or credentials someone may have, they will still be judged on their income rather than their personal merits.  The reverse is also true, that if someone does not have a formal education they may not even display morals, and yet if they are earning a high income they will still be admired.

If we look beyond the purely material manifestation of wealth we will see that the head and heart need to be aligned with spiritual principles and values.  Then wealth and other forms of support automatically arrive to co-operate with us in our work and life.  When we love what we do, then we become energized by that work which creates a magnetic energy that can attract, capture and engage others.  However, if we truly believe that we are following our 'calling', and there is still something not working, then check; are we truly in alignment with our purpose or is there something missing?  For example, do we have self-respect, or an underlying belief in the self that allows us to receive what we deserve?  Are we really being as honest as we would like to think that we are?

To get to this desired place of alignment, which brings with it success and satisfaction, we may have to take some risks and renounce old patterns of thinking and being.  We may have to leave the security of our luxurious comfort zone and regular pay packet and venture into new territory.  We will definitely have to give up thinking about what others may think of us, especially if 'living our truth' means going against being concerned about what society considers normal and mainstream.

Why is it so important that we live by our values?  Is it simply because we think it is right and therefore the best thing to do?  Living a life with values is what makes life worth living, and it gives us a sense of real purpose and satisfaction.  Following our true 'North' makes us feel at peace with our inner self, our outer life, and with those around us.  This puts us in control of our lives and our own destiny and it can create an atmosphere that inspires others.  Fear may ride in and bring doubt, making us question our judgment and choices.  But, if we stay focused and trust our internal navigation system, then we will get to our true destination.

We may not even need to leave our desks in order to feel better.  We may just need to change our mindset, and believe that we do have the power to transform our experience of life by choosing what we focus on.  Whether we feel trapped, or we feel uplifted by our work, it is in reality our choice.

Even if you cannot achieve all of the above, at least you can choose to stay happy. Practice feeling good and thankful about your work even if it's not what you want to be doing right now, and trust that the job you are looking for will cross your path.

It's Time… to align our thoughts, feelings, words, speech and actions.  When we follow our individual true North, we will bring our self back into a natural state of well-being and happiness.  We just need to keep checking our own compass!

mathias (2)

This is the talk about "Spiritual matters" between 2 friends, Mathias and Anand.  The talk started with the recognition of fear and how an intuition is related with fear. As the talk went on, "reasoning and logic" turned that friendly sharing into some sort of "debate," where listening to another in the light of self observation was forgotten and only intellectual concepts took over.
Mathias: Fear creates suppositions, suppositions create wear and tear in the self; that break down will finally exhaust you.
Precaution and intuition does not trap you in that state of mental exhaustion.
Anand: When a person says that intuitively she has to leave from doing something, that intuition gives her fear to leave right away….
Mathias: That intuition is not intuition. Intuition is something fast, instantaneous. It doesn't give time for doubt.
Anand: An Intuition could be mistaken?
Mathias: If that intuition does not go according to your wishes, then for you it will be a mistake, but if it goes according to the Universe it cannot be a mistake.
Anand: Then, an intuition could be according to the Universe or according to our expectations?
Mathias: Definitely.
Anand: If I am afraid that a dog will bite me, and I want to get out from it, then intuition appears….
Mathias: When there is fear, there is no intuition. When there is day there cannot be night.
Anand: Interesting…
It seems like fear is what is making us suffer..
Mathias: When there is intuition there is no fear for a few seconds but because an intuition is so fast, then fear could come.. That is why intuition needs to be followed by action because there shouldn't be an empty space after it.
Intuition is quick. Fear is slow, long.
Anand: But..fear is a thought, right?
Mathias paused and realized that Anand kept asking questions without considering and observing in himself the answers that he was getting, then Mathias decided to discourage Anand's reasoning by asking unrelated questions instead. This is what is known as "Koans" or riddles or mental puzzles, words just to exhaust the reasoning ability of someone who is trapped in concepts which will not allow that person to "see" without limiting definitions.
Mathias: Is the day an action?
Anand thought that question to be weird, it was not related with the talk at all but Anand answered Mathias' question anyway.
Anand: The day is an action? No, it is not an action.
Mathias: The night, is a state of consciousness?
Anand: Yes and No.
Mathias: To lie is an action or an alternative?
Anand: It is an alternative.
Mathias: It is not an action?
Anand: No, I have not performed an action.
Mathias: When you lie, you create karma?
Anand: Yes.
Mathias:What is the meaning of karma?
Anand: Action. But I have not performed an action…
Mathias: It is an akarma then?
Anand: It is an akarma which could have consequences…
Mathias: There could be consequences when there are no actions?
Anand: No.. There cannot be consequence when there are no actions… but to lie, you say it is an action, but I am not doing any actions..
Mathias then finally replied:  Mathias haven't said that.. Mathias only tries to make you tired until he can speak with you.
Anand smiled nervously and said…OK
Mathias further added: Mathias only wants to speak with you.
Anand is full of concepts and has a "debating" attitude. It is about demonstrating who is "right." He has a conceptual answer for everything based on reason and logic. However, his learning in life is based on experiences and not in mentally understanding concepts. Mathias words are helpful as long as Anand can see those words in himself and not when he separates those words as mental concepts.
The "problem" of  Anand is the "problem" of most intellectuals when dealing with Spirituality. Learning about life and the self is not "book learning."  To debate about who is "right" means very little when it is about knowing the self.
Anand: I want to understand, that is why I ask questions..
Mathias: It is not from the game of reasoning where you could understand. You will only run around like a dog chasing its own tail until you get tired of it…But when you get tired and sit down and observe, you will understand.

When you commit yourself to continuous improvement, you can't help but feel better about yourself. With growth comes the willingness to take risks and accept challenges. It's exciting because there is always something new you can be, do, have, and learn. It is in this reaching that you find out who you really are and all that you are capable of. And, as a result, you evolve as a human being. As you build momentum, you'll shine with confidence and inspire others along the way. Now, that's what progress is all about! ©Jane Powell

Remember What Is Most Important. . . It's not having everything go right ; it's facing whatever goes wrong. It's not being without fear ; it's having the determination to go on in spite of it. It's not where you stand, but the direction you're going in. It's more than never having bad moments; it's knowing you are always bigger than the moment. It's believing you have already been given everything you need to handle life. It's not being able to rid the world of all its injustices; it's being able to rise above them. It's the belief in your heart that there will always be more good than bad in the world. It's remembering that every day ends and brings a new tomorrow full of exciting new things. It's loving what you do and doing the best you can. Vickie M. Worsham

Choose to actively live Don't find an excuse. Find a way. Don't figure out how to put it off until later. Use your energy and intelligence and time to get it done now. Let go of the urge to complain about how things are. Remind yourself that you can make things better, and challenge yourself in each moment to do just that. There's no need to be dismayed at how hard it will be. Choose instead to be enthusiastic about how much of a real difference you can make. What really matters is not what's pushing against you. What matters is how authentically committed you are to moving forward. Connect with that commitment, connect with your positive passion, and choose to actively live life for all it's worth. You absolutely can if you will, so do.  Ralph Marston

Freeing Myself of My Inner Darkness (Meditation)

Breathe deeply... Become serene and feel a sensation of peace and wellbeing inside yourself... Now have a conversation with yourself...

I sit down comfortably, like an observer in silence. I stop paying attention to everything around me: objects, people, responsibilities, places...

I centre my mind on the present moment... The serenity, the peacefulness, wrap around me... In this calm I can see the dark corners of my inner being... They are like shadows... I see the fears, the anxieties, the guilt, the bitterness, the selfishness, the unhappiness... They are weaknesses that lie in some corner of me...

I accept that there are these dark areas within me... I observe them and I realize that I am not that darkness, I am not that weakness; it is not real; it is like a shadow...

I focus now on what is real; all my energy concentrates itself in the centre of my forehead and I visualize the energy centered like a point of light... It is a star of love, of peace, of wellbeing, of contentment...

I only have to access these original qualities and allow these energies to strengthen my soul... To do so, I continue to observe with calm, with patience... I don't allow my mind to judge or analyse what is happening to me... Everything that has happened to me forms part of the past... I have learned from my mistakes... I forgive myself... I forgive others...

(To be continued tomorrow...)

Soul Sustenance

The Benefits Of Soul Consciousness

The following differences between body consciousness and soul consciousness, will make you realize the benefits of soul consciousness (the practice of meditation make us soul conscious):

In Body Consciousness: I am in bondage (not free).
In Soul Consciousness: There are no bondages, I am free.

In Body Consciousness: I have many questions and few answers.
In Soul Consciousness: I understand everything that I do.

In Body Consciousness: I am afraid of dying (losing the body).
In Soul Consciousness: I know I am eternal (the soul is beyond birth and death) and there is no fear of death.

In Body Consciousness: I have no control over sense organs e.g. eyes, ears, tongue, etc..
In Soul Consciousness: I am able to practice self-control.

(To be continued tomorrow ….)

Message for the day

To be seated on the seat of self-respect is to use virtues in life.

Projection: It usually seems very difficult to use the virtues within us when the people around are not doing so. At such times using negativity seems much easier. In spite of not having that particular weakness predominantly, say of anger, when there is provocation from the outside we tend to react with that weakness.

Solution: In order to free ourselves from weaknesses and work with the virtues within us we need to make sure we are seated on the seat of self-respect. For this we need to recognise and appreciate some speciality within us. When we are in the awareness of this speciality of ours, we will be able to stabilize ourselves in the state of our self-respect.

The following reflects 2 different views of truth. Very interesting.
First, we have Mr.Steve Jobs. He is an "icon" of success in the USA. The former Apple CEO, had an interesting life. He shaped his world. He manipulated it because he realized that "Everything you call life was made up by people not smarter than you." Therefore, you can embrace it, change it, improve it.. make your mark on it…because the world is messed up in a way…
Notice that Mr. Jobs realization about a conceptual life that is limiting us, is very spiritual indeed.
Interesting to know that, Mr. Jobs went to India to find "enlightenment" in her younger days.
Mr. Jobs approach was to "change the world." That was his truth.
However, notice that the way we change the world will reflect the way we are. In other words, don't expect that someone who is a "go getter," who is looking for "profit" and that is all about "beating the competition" will change the world in a gentle, compassionate way… :-) their concept of "improving the world" is based on their perspective of the world.
Anyone who is for the "motto" of changing the world without first changing the self, will try to make the world an extension of himself.Ego.
If you want to know how spiritually evolved someone is, just hear the "noise" that they make while speaking. Note not what they are saying but how they are saying it. The way it sounds to the ears without decoding the words, their voice inflection, the all embracing "vibe" that they send out…All of that gives you the "truth" behind the words… :-)

In this video we have Zen master Jinen. He is hinting that "truth" is to find yourself and everything shows you who you are, so you can learn what truth is. That truth is non conceptual. It cannot be put into words and in that truth there is no separation. Everything reflects who you are.
Therefore, to think "me" and the "world," is separation. To change the world isolated from "me" is a conceptual illusion.
Even though his English is limited, there is a lot more talking about him which goes beyond words and concepts… :-)
